[plamo:03070] Plamo + XEmacs

Linux 超初心者です．

Plamo Linux で XEmacs をコンパイルしたのですが，うまい具合にコンパイル
できません．コンパイルして起動させたら emacs が立ち上がって

Symbol's function difinition is xoid : set-display-coding-system

(1)(initialization/error) An error has occurred while loading ~/.emacs:
Symbol's function definition is void :
set-display-coding-system
To ensure nomal operation,you should investigate the cause of the error

to XEmacsto view a complete error backtrace. 

という文章が表示されました．


バージョンは
Plamo Linux 1.4.1
XEmacs 21.0.67
gcc 2.7.2.3
GNU make 3.76.1
です．

英文の意味はそれとなく分かるのですが，解決策がよく分かりません．
何回か，やり直してはいるものの，やっぱりだめです．
場合によっては kterm の中で xemacs が立ち上がる時もあります．

あのツールバーのついている XEmacs は，なぜ立ち上がらないのでしょうか．

ちゃんとした，コンパイル方法があるのでしょうか．
コンパイル手順は，ファイル xemacs-21.0.67.tar.gz を展開後

1) ./configure --with-gcc --with-wnn --with-x11 --with-mule

2) make

3) su 
   [password]

4) make install

5) exit

といった感じです．
アドバイスお願いいたします．
