[plamo:16099] plamo/98 X の起動、PC9821V10(Re:PC98V166 のXWindow)

今晩は、MOUE＠やっと 3.0 上で PC9821V10 に X が起動、です。

これちょっと意味がわからなかったです。^^;
日本語表示の件だったのですが。。。

えぇと、これはどうやら Plamo-3.0 で採用している XFree86-4.2.0
ではサポートされていないカードを使用している機種のためです。

/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/doc/VideoBoard98
を読んでいただくとわかりますが、私の V10 や赤井さんの V12 など
他にもかなりの機種が Not Working/Not supported となっています。

何か動かす手段がないかと、Linux/98-ML にお尋ねしたところ、富田
さんから貴重な情報をいただきました。
XFree86-4.x をインストールした環境に追加して使用できる 3.3.6 の
X サーバを富田さんが作っておられ、以下に tgz になったパッケージ
がおいてあります。

こちらには、rpm パッケージがあります。

これを使って、先ほど X の起動を確認しました。
手順を簡単に書いておきます。

使用したのは、XFree98-NKVNEC-3.3.6.tgz です。おそらく V12 も
これで行けると思いますが、XFree98-SVGA-3.3.6.tgz も用意して
おいたほうがいいでしょう。
この tgz を保存したディレクトリで、展開します。

$ tar xvzf XFree98-NKVNEC-3.3.6.tgz

usr/X11R6/[ bin | lib ]/ ができて、その中に
bin/XF98_NKVNEC
lib/[ libfont.so@   libfont.so.1@    libfont.so.1.3 ]
があります。

これを、/usr/X11R6/[bin | lib/fonts ]/ に root でコピーします。

# cp usr/X11R6/bin/XF98_NKVNEC /usr/X11R6/bin/
# cp usr/X11R6/lib/libfont.* /usr/X11R6/lib/fonts/

次に、XF86Config を用意し、/etc/ に置きます。( /etc/X11/ では
読んでくれません。)

今回使用した XF86Config は以下の通りです。

ユーザで起動すると、
xf86OpenConsole: Server must be running with root permissions.
You should be using Xwrapper to start the server or xdm.
といわれますので、sudo などを利用するといいでしょう。

$HOME/.xinitrc に、

PATH=$HOME/bin:$PATH

という行がありますから、これを

PATH=$HOME/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:$PATH
expot PATH

と修正して、先頭部分に置き直します。

X の起動は、次のコマンドを使います。

$ sudo /usr/X11R6/bin/xinit -- /usr/X11R6/bin/XF98_NKVNEC

sudo がわからなければ、su で root になってから、

# /usr/X11R6/bin/xinit -- /usr/X11R6/bin/XF98_NKVNEC

ですが、こちらなら、$HOME/.Xdefault を /root/ に cp します。
また、afterstep を使う場合は、$HOME/.xinitrc_step を
/root/.xinitrc として cp しておけばいいでしょう。 
あとは、$HOME/.steprc も cp ですか。

X の起動は遅いですし、多少色落ちもありますが、起動してしまえば
それなりに使えそうです。
