途中経過を把握してませんが、

 cat /proc/filesystems
 ls -ld /dev/fd0
 ls -ld /mnt

の結果はどうなっていますか。
 こちらの実行結果は
 $ cat /proc/filesystems 
 ext2
 vfat
 (その他)
 $ ls -dl /dev/fd0
 brw-rw----   1 root     floppy     2,   0  5月 15日 1996年 /dev/fd0
 $ ls -dl /mnt
 drwxr-xr-x   2 root     root         1024  7月 11日 2000年 /mnt/

 long file name のファイルをみるため、vfat としてますが、これが msdos に
なっていれば、まず、問題なくmountされるとおもいますが。
