[plamo:24639] fipsでパーティションが作れない

はじめまして、村上と申します。

linux初心者で、Windowsも職場でword等を使ったり簡単なHTMLを書く
くらいで、分からないことだらけですが、よろしくお願いします。

「IBM-PCにFIPSでlinuxインストール用のパーティションが作れない」で
困っています。

マシンを昨年12月に借用したもので、（たぶん当分返さなくて良い？）
これをサーバーにしたいと思い、ムック「Plamo Linux Expert」を購入し、
plamo linux 4.0をインストールしようとしています。

マシンは私の分かる範囲で以下のようなものです。

IBM Personal Computre 3000GL
CPU:		Pentium(r) Processor
メモリ:		RAM 32MB
HDD:		8GB
CDROM:		なし
FDD:		あり
OS:		Windows98
気づいたこと:
 起動するとき２度、カチッといってモニタが 真っ暗になります。
 スタートメニューから終了させるとき、電源が落ちないです。 
 その他は普通に動いているようです。

それで、Windows 起動FD2枚を作り、ダウンロードしたfips2.0を
２枚目のFDにいれて、１枚目FD入れて起動し、２枚目に取り換えて、
A:\> と、入力待ちになったので、fips.exeリターンしたところ、

(1) バージョン情報等表示。リターンキー押す。
(2) パーティションテーブル表示。リターンキー押す。
(3) またパーティションテーブル表示。リターンキー押す。

すると、「セクタ数が合わない」みたいなメッセージが出て
終わってしまいました。

Windowsでスキャンディスク（クラスタチェック修復コース）と
デフラグをしてから再試行してみましたが結果は同じでした。

どうにかパーティションを作る手だてがあったら教えて下さいませ。
