[plamo:07544] LGY-98が認識されません

はじめまして、Linux 勉強中の大野といいます。どうしてもわからない
ことがあるので質問させてください。

ISP ------- TA ------- Plamo 2.1 ------- HUB ------- Windows
       (Aterm IT50)  (PC-9821V166)               (自作 DOS/V 機)

Linux をダイアルアップルーターにして、上記のような家庭内 LAN を構築し
ようと思い、SoftwareDesign誌 11月号に収録されていた Plamo 2.1 を
PC-9821V166 にインストールしました。
まずは Plamo 2.1 のみで ppxp を使用して ISP に接続することを目標と
してましたが、すんなりと接続することができました。

次に NIC(LGY-98) を認識させようと思いカーネルを再構築して、以下のような
記述を /boot/grub/menu.lst に対して行いました。

kernel = /vmlinuz root=/dev/hda2 ro ide0=serialize wd33c93=level2:1 \
ether=6,0xd0,4,eth0

しかし、reboot後に dmesg としてみると IP-Config: No network devices
available と表示されたり、ifconfig としても eth0 の表示が
されないため、どうも NIC が認識されていないように思えるのですが
いかがでしょうか。過去ログ等を見ると LGY-98 は Plamo で使用できると
あったのですが、なにか認識させるための手順が抜けているのでしょうか。
ご教授お願いします。
# なお、現在は HUB 及び 自作機は手元にありません。
